Hey! Glad you're here.

Hi. I'm Anna Sysling—sometimes Annamarie Sysling if I'm feeling fancy.

I’m a multimedia storyteller, journalist, and producer based in Calumet, Michigan. After years of working in traditional public media in Detroit (producing and hosting Detroit Public Television’s Great Lakes Now and wearing many hats at WDET, Detroit's NPR affiliate), I came to the Keweenaw Peninsula one summer to field produce a story about wolves and moose. I fell in love with this place, and six months later, I moved up here.

My reporting focuses on food systems, land conservation, and the community-led initiatives that are shaping rural spaces. Because I deeply believe in local independent media, I’m also currently building out local media infrastructure as the co-founder of Radio Keweenaw (WFKC-LP), a non-profit community radio station focused on citizen journalism, local news, and Northwoods culture.

Other interests include: sriracha, my dog Spud, paddle boarding, ferments, experimental audio projects, and baking crunchy goodness for the small-batch granola business I own with my husband.

If you want to work together, let's talk and see what unfolds.
